Wall Magazine |
There are many "Laxmi Prasad Devkota"s and "Parijat"s in our school. There also are great journalists and artists in the making. All great poets, story writers, journalists and painters start as a novice and need a conducive environment to thrive. A wall-magazine is a great platform for such aspiring artists to showcase their talent at school.
In Belhi Rajaul, a group of students of Janata School made an editorial group and decided to make a wall-magazine. They held meetings and allocated tasks for each member. They chose Sudip as an editor, Sneha, Sangita, Aarti, Rifat and Pinky took responsibilities for collection of write-ups, poems, stories etc. and Aashki and Rabana had to arrange materials needed for publication. Aarti and Sahana took the job of arranging the writings and decorating the magazine. They also decided to collect 10 rupees each to buy materials and created a fund. Few students donated with ball pens and pencils to write down. I also helped them papers and colors.

Pasting Wall-magazine on board |
Students from grade 6 to 10 wrote poems on importance of education, student life and many other topics of their interest and sent in. Some made beautiful sketches and some wrote inspiring stories. Rabana also interviewed a veteran teacher who had recently retired. There were jokes, songs and other interesting items in the collection. All the students actively took part in writing and sending their creations to the editorial team.
Editor and other members chose the final items to go into the magazine and decided which item would go to which place. All the items went to the designated places and decorators decorated with illustrations. The wall-magazine was hung on a board for everyone to read. It was a great source of inspiration to the editorial team as well as other students.

Students read a wall-magazine |
The activity had multiple benefits. Undoubtedly, as mentioned above it is a great platform to showcase for aspiring writers and artists. But in addition it was also a great opportunity for the editorial team to practice leadership. It required skills to hold meetings, bring a team together and decide on a common agenda. Motivating other students to send in their creations, manage funds and other materials was also a challenging task the editorial team had to overcome. All in all, the whole process of deciding to come up with a wall-magazine and finally publish it was a great feat everyone was proud of. Kudos!!
